The Future of Nursing and Its Implications for Patient Care

Is the future of the profession of nursing being shaped by registered nurses, or other forces hostile to the role of RNs at the core of the healthcare system?

This course will identify how cost containment methods in the healthcare industry affect patient health out-comes and limit nurses’ judgment and advocacy.

It will suggest RN models for achieving robust health in our facilities and communities.

Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain why current nursing practice standards protect patient safety and produce positive outcomes.
  2. Apply critical thinking in determining whether any and all new healthcare initiatives actually serve the interest of individual patients and promote robust public health.
  3. Articulate the unique patient advocacy and holistic approach to healthcare at the core of the registered nurse's role.
  4. List the various methods that registered nurses can utilize to maintain high standards of patient care in all settings.
